Salary Cap Management, Kyle Dubas Style

The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to deliver a master class in asset management as they show the world they can and they will.

We spoke already at length about the Toronto Maple Leafs "Studs'n'Duds" roster building philosophy and what it means for the team's salary cap structure.

With franchise player, reigning MVP Auston Matthews, needing re-signing soon along with Swedish sensation superstar William Nylander, the team has done a good job clearing the books. (CapFriendly)

There are ten free agents this summer.

With the salary cap expected to rise by only a millions bucks next year Toronto Maple Leafs general manager, Kyle Dubas, will be looking to re-sign all these players for the same salary on one year deals or telling them to hit the bricks.

Leafs Can't Afford All Their UFA's

Which means a bunch of duds are gonna be pounding pavement looking for a new home this summer. Two feet and a heart beat. None of these guys are gonna get what they want with the studs all coming due.

If you think this summer is going to be a gong show just wait until next year. There's only four players signed for the 2023-2024 season. I have no idea how Dubas is planning on icing a full team, and I doubt he does either.

Matthews and Nylander will be priority number one.

Followed by the two Swedish meatballs on defense. Sandin and Nylander both due at the same time is gonna be a real treat. Lewis Gross, the agent for both players, is gonna teach Dubas how to beg. Sticking it to Dubas is what Gross does best.

Assume the position and get back down on your knees Kyle.

Looking at CapFriendly is enough to give you the heebie jeebies. There's a very good chance one of Dubas' prized possessions is going to walk for free. Maybe even Matthews. In just two short years from now fans are facing a future of no Stanley Cups, and no Auston Matthews or William Nylander on the team.

But Calle Jarnkrok will be.

Another master class in asset management, Kyle Dubas style.
